The Ascending Threshold

A monumental gateway — a keyhole-shaped opening in a wall of dark biomechanical mass — with pink-gold light pouring from the passage beyond. The gateway structure is composed of swirling, bioluminescent forms in teal and cyan that could be tentacles, could be neural pathways, could be circuitry grown organic. The forms spiral and coil around the opening, their internal glow creating an aurora effect against the surrounding darkness. A single human figure stands at the base of the steps leading into the light, silhouetted and small against the scale of the threshold. The passage glows warm; everything outside it is cold and dark. A doorway between states of being. The choice to enter is the work's subject.
