Landscape Meditation I

The river catches the last light. It threads through a valley of blue-gray mountains — five ridges deep, each softer than the last — and where the water runs, the sky pours itself down in liquid gold. The clouds above are the real event: massive cumulus formations lit from below in amber and peach, billowing against a deep blue upper sky with the slow-motion grandeur of something that knows it has all the time in the world. The mountains don't compete. They sit low and patient, blue silhouettes providing the bass note while the sky and water perform. The palette is two temperatures meeting without conflict: warm gold on every horizontal surface where light can pool, cool slate-blue on every vertical plane that turns away from the sun. There's no human presence, no structure, no path. Just earth, water, air, and the specific color of the hour when the day stops moving forward and begins moving down. The stillness is what implies the motion. You can feel the clouds drifting.
