Eyes closed. Head bowed. Full plate armor still on, the red surcoat stained and creased from whatever came before this moment of stillness. She hasn't removed a single piece of it — not the pauldrons, not the gorget, not the heavy gauntlets now folded loosely in her lap. The vulnerability isn't in what she's taken off but in what she hasn't: the armor says she knows the rest won't last. Her curly hair falls forward, partially obscuring her face, and the side-light — warm, golden, almost devotional — catches the metal at her shoulder and the exhaustion in the line of her mouth. The background is pure darkness, gallery black, which turns the figure into a Caravaggio study of a soldier who has survived something she hasn't finished processing. The scars on the visible armor tell their own stories. But it's the closed eyes that hold the composition — not sleeping, not praying, just paused. Just briefly, impossibly still.
