Darkroom Redux

A tall vertical print in silver gelatin black and white — a ghostly circular arc sweeps across the upper third like a lens flare made permanent. Beneath it, a landscape resolves partially: rocky terrain, atmospheric haze, what might be a solitary figure at the middle distance. The dodging and burning are extreme, almost violent — deep blacks in the lower corners, blown-out whites where the enlarger light was blocked. The circular mark could be from a dodging tool held too long, or a deliberate gesture. Chemical process as brushstroke. The darkroom as studio.
