The Outcast Queen

She has not removed the crown. That's the first thing you notice — the braided silver headband still circles her brow, threaded through elaborate plaits wound with purple and gold silk. The lace ruff fans out behind her like the petals of a flower that refuses to close. Every bead on the collar — and there are hundreds, catching the dim studio light in copper and amber and pearl — speaks of a court she no longer occupies. But her expression carries zero defeat. She's looking slightly off-axis, chin lifted, the set of her mouth suggesting that whoever deposed her made a strategic error they haven't yet realized. The purple brocade of her garments has the weight of real fabric, real history. The gold embroidery at her shoulders could be heraldic. The dark backdrop is a Renaissance master's trick — remove everything but the figure, let the face and the costume do the talking. And they do. This is not a portrait of loss. This is a portrait of patience.
